the journey
With vineyards situated on the slopes of the Kasteelberg Mountain in the Swartland, this wine range bears the name of the weathered granite outcrop that rises like a sentinel over the Riebeek Valley. Once a lookout for nomadic tribes, later a refuge for settlers and outcasts, the mountain has long been a place of vantage and resilience. The name Kasteelberg evokes not only the mountain itself but also the view it once offered early settlers—back toward Table Bay and the distant Castle of Good Hope, or in Dutch: “Kasteel de Goede Hoop”.
The vineyards grow in rocky, ancient soils shaped by wind and drought. Dry-farmed and tended by hand, they yield fruit of great intensity and character. Our three tiers of wines are a testament to patient craftsmanship and the quiet power of terroir—a wine not just of origin, but of belonging.
AT THE HEART OF THE SWARTLAND AND RIEBEEK VALLEY
The Swartland, north of Cape Town, has evolved from an overlooked region into one of South Africa’s most respected wine areas. Its warm, dry climate and varied soils create ideal conditions for dry-land farming, yielding wines of depth, texture, and authenticity. Rising from the center of this landscape, Kasteelberg Mountain stands as a defining landmark—once a lookout and refuge, now the heart of the Riebeek Valley and a symbol of the region’s enduring connection between land, craft, and community.
